Facial procedures are among the most sought-after types of plastic surgery in San Diego. The features of the face are what we notice first about a person, and what we will often find the most physically memorable. The desire to rejuvenate and restore one’s facial appearance through cosmetic plastic surgery is one that innovative San Diego plastic surgeon Dr. Chasan is more than equipped to fulfill.
Time and again, the San Diego elite turn to our staff to provide top-quality care and stellar results for each treatment. From a state of the art Petit Lift that includes browlift and eyelid surgery to a simple yet effective lip lift, patients can achieve the look that they want with facial procedures from Ranch and Coast Plastic Surgery.
“The Petit Lift” is a specialty facial procedure developed by Dr. Chasan that allows for the significant improvement and rejuvenation of the face without requiring a full facelift. With careful precision, the surgeon works with the deep facial tissues, tightening them to ease age lines while smoothing the overall appearance of the face. The Petit Lift is ideal for patients who are typically in their forties and fifties who do not quite meet the recommended conditions for a full facelift. As such, the Petit Liftrequires less dissection than a standard facelift, and instead may use a combination of liposuction and fat transfer treatments to erase years off of a patient’s face.
The brow lift is a popular facial procedure and is commonly used to provide a complete rejuvenation of the face. The plastic surgeon removes excess sagging skin from the forehead and brow while working with the forehead’s underlying tissues, easing the deep, furrowed look that often occurs due to age. The incisions made in the hairline cannot be visibly detected, granting the patient confidence and assurance that they have achieved a natural facial look. If you have a tired appearance, a naturally thick brow, or if others have said that you have a permanent frown upon your face, a brow lift can help address the issue.
Neck liposuction gives the neck and chin area a more contoured look by removing excess fat, achieving a younger, more natural appearance. Many find the characteristics of “turkey neck,” which is most identified by excessive sagging neck skin, an undesirable yet common look. Although most ideal candidates for neck liposuction tend to be in their twenties and thirties, older patients may choose to undergo neck liposuction for the immediate aesthetic benefits it offers. The treatment is ideal for both men and women; for women, it gives the appearance of refinement and grace, while neck liposuction offers men a firmer, more defined jawline.
Nose surgery, or Nose Shaping, also known as rhinoplasty, reshapes the natural structure and symmetry of the nose, which can contribute to a more aesthetically pleasing face. The nose may look misaligned as a result of genetics, age, or even external circumstances such as an injury. In addition to its cosmetic advantages, nose surgery may be beneficial for those with blocked nasal passages, which can affect regular breathing. There are several types of nose surgery a patient may want to consider; please schedule a consultation with our San Diego plastic surgeons to determine your needs for the right type of rhinoplasty.
A patient who has a “tired” appearance, even when feeling perfectly rested, may benefit from the appearance-enhancing effects of eyelid surgery. Also called a blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery features small, fast-healing incisions in the creases of the upper, lower, or both eyelids. This treatment can solve the common puffy “bags under the eyes” look or a tired appearance caused by excess sagging skin or fat. Eyelid surgery, along with a browlift and a facelift, offer the patient an unparalleled age-defying facial procedure.
Enhancing the look of the lips with a lip augmentation treatment is a specialty of Ranch and Coast Plastic Surgery. Normally, local patients are challenged with finding a San Diego plastic surgeon who can make their lip augmentation look natural while achieving their aesthetic ideals for a younger, fuller appearance. Using the latest volume-enhancing fillers, Dr. Chasan and the staff at Ranch and Coast are able to provide patients with plump, movie-star quality lips and/or reduced wrinkles around the mouth that solve the issues of aged or thin lips without the need for surgery. This quick procedure has long-lasting effects with practically no downtime, leaving patients to return to their daily routines straightaway with newly rejuvenated lips.
Patients in need of a younger-looking appearance may choose a lip lift to rejuvenate their facial features. As the upper lip begins to droop, a patient’s full, bright smile may be partially or completely hidden. The lip lift corrects the aesthetic issue by removing a small piece of excess skin and/or tissue underneath the nose, which returns to upper lip to a higher, more refined position. Although this is a relatively simple condition to treat, not all plastic surgeons have the required skill to achieve the patient’s desired result. Be sure to schedule a consultation with Dr. Chasan to discuss a lip lift treatment for a younger, fresher appearance.
Otoplasty, also known as ear surgery, is sought-after by patients who are not satisfied with the position or shape of their ears. The treatment involves removing excess cartilage and skin from the earlobes, then pinning the modified parts to the existing structures of the ears to keep them in place. This forms a natural ear shape when viewed from all sides. Adult patients (or even patients as young as six years old) may desire otoplasty to correct ear placements affected by a birth defect or even injury, and Ranch and Coast Plastic Surgery is more than equipped to meet those needs.
Whatever facial improvements a patient may desire, there is a facial procedure that can achieve them. Dr. Chasan can help you realize your aesthetic goals with safe surgical expertise, all while helping you feel comfortable and assured of your decisions.

Dr. Chasan Discusses Facelift Choices on The Wellness Hour
Interviewer: Facelifting, big part of what you do.
Dr. Chasan: Yeah.
Interviewer: At what point does somebody need a facelift?
Dr. Chasan: Well, I’m gonna put facelift as one of my many tools for facial rejuvenation, okay? And a facelift, people make that mistake of facelift versus a full facelift. A facelift is really a neck and jaw lift, very reliable and reproducible, remove the gel and the turkey neck, okay? So that’s what a facelift does. It does this part of the face, the lower third. And, you know, when I first started practicing, I kind of had one facelift. And now, over all these years, I’ve been in practice 20 years, I have like five different facelifts. So I try to match that facelift with the patient’s anatomy.
So I would say I do a lot of mini-facelifts. We call it “the petite lift.” And the difference between a mini-facelift and, you know, a very aggressive facelift is dissection, how much skin you undermine. In a mini-facelift, it would be less. The less you undermine, the quicker the recovery. There are some people who come with bowl-shaped necks, and they have big submandibular glands and a thick neck. But you can’t do a mini-lift on them. And if you do, you’re really wasting their time and your time. So the spectrum is from mini-lift to actually full-neck contouring with removal of what we call the platysmal fat and, underneath the platysma fat, removal of these glands called submandibular glands. There’s these big, thick muscles called digastric muscles.
So, on some people, I’ll actually remove part of the digastric muscle, remove part of the submandibular gland, remove part of that submandibular fat, and then suture this platysmal muscle. And they can go from kind of a bowl-shaped neck where the chin meets their chest to a very contoured, defined neck.
Interviewer: So what are the age ranges of these…like these mini-lifts?
Dr. Chasan: Yeah, most people, I would say in the late 40s is when they start doing mini-lifts. Usually, eyelids and brow lifts are in the late 30s and early 40s and then mini-lifts, in the late 40s, 50s, 60s, even into the 70s.
Interviewer: Okay. And how many years younger can you make somebody look with some of these?
Dr. Chasan: It really depends on…
Interviewer: What do you hear?
Dr. Chasan: It depends on your anatomy.
Interviewer: Like 10 years younger, 15 years younger?
Dr. Chasan: I would say 10 to 15. And it really depends on how fit they are. I always tell patients the best thing for your skin is cardio, avoiding sun, avoiding smoking, and cardio. So if somebody does that and lives a healthy lifestyle, yeah, they can look 15 years younger. You know, funny you should mention that. I just did a lady. And it surprised me how good she did. She’s actually my age. She was a heavy smoker. She was a patient of mine, I don’t know, 12 years ago. And she came back for a facelift. And she looked pretty bad, a lot of sun damage, a lot of smoking. And I just did her facelift about three weeks ago. And, honest to God, now, this is unusual, but she looks about 20 years younger.
Interviewer: Is that right?
Dr. Chasan: Yeah. It’s actually quite impressive transformation.
Interviewer: Now, what are the fears patients have, because I feel like I could spot a facelift 20 yards away?
Dr. Chasan: That’s their fear. So for brow lifts, every one of them says, “I don’t wanna look like a deer in the headlights,” okay, and that, you know, if I had patients that looked like that, it wouldn’t be very good for business. But we don’t see that. But, you know, you do see it. You see it.
Interviewer: That done look.
Dr. Chasan: That done look.
Interviewer: That tight done look.
Dr. Chasan: And all you have to do is see one of them, and it negates 100. The same thing with the facelift is “I don’t wanna look windblown,” right? “I don’t wanna look like that tight, windblown look.” And I usually tell people that that windblown, tight look is either one of two things, an expert surgery…so if you’re a pro at it and you are detail-oriented on how the earlobe insets, where the sideburn is, how you treat the posterior hairline so they can wear their hair up, that you’re not pulling on the skin, because skin will stretch. You’re pulling on what we call the SMAS layer, which is the superficial covering in the muscle. It’s very fibrous. It doesn’t stretch like the skin. If you do the right things, you won’t get that look. The other way is some people, you know, they’ve had five, six facelifts.
Dr.Chasan: After five, six facelifts, you’ll have that look. So I try to caution my patients to have a life plan on how many they’re gonna have, how long facelifts last. And if it’s done expertly, you should not be able to tell that they had a facelift.
Interviewer: Are there women out there in San Diego, they’re 60, 55, that look years younger, nobody knows they had a facelift, not even their friends, that you’ve done?
Dr. Chasan: Most of my patients. Yeah.
Dr. Chasan: Most of my patients.
Interviewer: So if I saw one of your patients walking down the street…
Dr. Chasan: You wouldn’t know. You shouldn’t be able to know. I’d be embarrassed if you knew. You shouldn’t.
Interviewer: So when I see somebody that looks fantastic at 55, I’m gonna think maybe that’s Dr. Chasan’s patient.
Dr. Chasan: I hope so, yeah, and pride myself on that.
